The Youth Amidst COVID19 | Citizen Support Mechanism

There is so much going on currently and everything seems to be at a standstill. Many are the dreams and hopes that have been shattered throwing everyone into the ocean of uncertainty. I am specifically worried about myself and other jobless youth struggling to make ends meet. This pandemic has plunged most of us into turmoil following the closure of companies we expected to employ us. No longer is it an unemployment issue, but the collapse of companies. Barely a month has passed since the novel respiratory virus COVID-19 was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization and due to its spread like bushfire several desperate and drastic measures such as bans have been birthed to curb the influx and manifestation of the virus. Other interventions have been the closure of borders, learning institutions, workplaces, leisure spots, shops, curfews, and restriction of movement in and out of counties with the highest COVID 19 cases. The economy as a country is at stake hence the need to innovate ways to cushion it. Coronavirus is the scariest thing of our time to ever experience. Never did anyone imagine the closure of fellowship centers and the limitation to give our loved one's decent send-offs.

Truly I see a lot of opportunities and this is the perfect time for the youth to unlock their innovative side by taking interest in handwork like tailoring, drawing, craftwork, painting among other hidden talents.

All said and done it is a fact that the youth are feeling trepidation about the future now more than ever. The youth remains the hope for our country’s future and ought to rise above the COVID challenge to save the economy. Every coin has two sides, it is time to stop looking at the COVID negativity and focus on the best opportunities in it, through taking advantage of this isolation period to reflect deeply on new innovative ideas and start working on them to sustain our economy. Not knowing when this crisis will be over, finding meaning in the meaningful for instance through spreading COVID 19 awareness messages and helping the vulnerable may be some ways the youth can employ to bring positive change in the society. Crisis breeds innovation, vision, and hope! I marvel at a small boy from Bungoma who invented a simple hand wash facility in the wake of this pandemic, K.U. students who invented ventilators and the police officer who has ventured into making and distributing masks. Truly I see a lot of opportunities and this is the perfect time for the youth to unlock their innovative side by taking interest in handwork like tailoring, drawing, craftwork, painting among other hidden talents. For every challenge, there is a solution! The youth can tap into the challenges posed by COVID 19 and thrive. Living one day at a time while giving our best is all we need to go the extra mile to finally celebrate our resilience.
